Bronwyn Berman
Bronwyn Berman explores ecospirituality through art—investigating the sacred dimension of our human relationship with the natural world.
Working from her studio beside the Wingecarribee River wilderness in New South Wales, Berman's practice spans sculptural paper constructions, copper sculpture, drawing and jewellery. Her work is grounded in daily engagement with Country and decades of close observation of the Australian landscape.
Berman's sculptural paper constructions use handmade and artisanal papers, worked through folding, burning, tearing, waxing and gilding, then fixed with traditional craft techniques—stitching, weaving, knotting. These works centre on sacred geometric forms found in nature: spirals, seed pods, cellular patterns. Her copper sculptures explore similar forms at larger scale, while her jewellery practice creates talismanic objects using semi-precious stones and silver.
Throughout her 25-year career, Berman has explored how art-making can function as ecological healing. Her public art commissions include permanent installations across NSW and Victoria, and her Ph.D. (2022) reimagined ecovillages as works of environmental art.
Berman's studio gallery in Robertson, Southern Highlands, is open to the public. Selected artworks and jewellery are available through this website.
