When Loss Becomes a Portal
Let it go,
Let it out,
Let it all unravel,
Let it free
And it will be
A path on which to travel.
Michael Leunig
Last week, there was a lot of press about broadcaster, biologist and natural historian David Attenborough, who, on turning 99, has released his final documentary. “Ocean with David Attenborough” was made over the course of seven years and is acknowledged by the great man himself as one of his most important works. In the film, he highlights the vital importance of our oceans at the same time exposing how human activity is pushing marine life to the brink. While millions around the world celebrate this milestone and flock to cinemas to witness his latest plea for our planet, I find myself caught in a familiar struggle.
I should see this movie, but I just can’t…
